The companion piece to the tenth episode of the Totally Buzzed UK Podcast Episode 10 “The Portrait of Keanu Reeves”

Jon J Squires, Kayleigh, and Laura preside over the tenth episode of the Totally Buzzed UK Podcast. The podcast drops every Monday on all-good podcasting platforms and discusses the weird, wonderful, and down-right unbelievable stories that are floating around the web. However in this week’s special edition to mark reaching double digits, the gang focuses on weird conspiracies.

The Conspiracies Featured On Episode Ten of The Totally Buzzed UK Podcast:

“Keanu Reeves is Immortal”

Laura, Jon J Squires, and Kayleigh discussed the wild theory that Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves is immortal. This conspiracy is so popular that there’s a website dedicated to exploring it in the form of www.keanuisimmortal.com/, and the actor even spoke about it in a recent interview. The website shares images of historical figures who remarkably resemble Reeves, and they cheekily point out that Reeves is set to make it to the year 2077 – given he stars in the video game Cyberpunk 2077. Squires suggested that Reeves isn’t immortal but is a gamer personified and has many lives. Kayleigh believes Reeves could be a vampire and compares him to Edward Cullen from the Twilight series. While Laura isn’t overly convinced but is willing to be open to the possibility that Reeves is immortal. Laura even referenced Oscar Wilde’s Portrait of Dorian Gray, which apparently neither Squires nor Kayleigh have heard of – despite it being an absolute classic.

The book also got the Hollywood treatment in 2009, trailer below, which made Laura even more surprised that Kayleigh and Squires had not heard of it.

Also, the trio talked about actor Paul Rudd as he has looked the same for years – this is until Kayleigh admitted that Rudd has started to show his age as of late and lambasts Laura for selecting photos that don’t show him in his most youthful light.

“Back to the Future is a metaphor for sexual reproduction”

While Squires has only seen one-third of the Back to The Future trio, the next conspiracy the trio tackled is about what the popular sci-fi franchise is about. Notable publication TIME shared several theories about the franchise that are so bizarre that they could be true, and the trio dissected the one that claimed the franchise is a metaphor for sexual reproduction. The theory proposes this as when you consider the flux capacitor looks like a pair of ovaries and fallopian tubes connected to a uterus and that a male has to get in the time machine to start it, then it mirrors sexual reproduction. The theory also refers to the fact a doctor oversees the time machine being used in the form of Doc Brown. Kayleigh and Squires both laughed off this theory before Squires mansplained how times were different back in the 80s when Back To The Future was filmed and men were always going to be front and center in a blockbuster movie such as this.

Laura also referred to the theory that Jennifer’s appearance changed between the first and second movie due to the butterfly effect. This led Laura to point out that Kayleigh didn’t even notice that the actress played Jennifer changed between the films, something Laura pointed out the first time Kayleigh showed her the film.

“The Moon Landing”

Laura, Kayleigh, Squires covered one of the biggest conspiracies known to mankind and go through why people doubt the Americans landed on the moon in 1969. Laura used explanations from BBC’s Newsround, The Guardian, and IOP.org to help highlight the most popular doubts people have.

Squiggy accuses Laura of having a tinfoil hat on as she revealed that while she is 100% convinced we landed on the moon – she isn’t sure it went down 100% like it is said. It also came to the light that Laura thought Buzz Aldrin had passed and is delighted to find out he’s still alive.

Kayleigh reveals that she is 100% convinced that the USA landed on the moon and explained she doesn’t think there was good enough technology back in 1969 for them to successfully pull off faking the moon landing.

In the tenth edition of this segment on the podcast, TikTok Spotlight, Laura highlights a TikTok that she enjoys and believes others would enjoy.

In this TikTok, the user shares her conspiracy theory that the animals & fishes in zoos and aquariums could be fake, based on the video she shot of a crab. This led to Squires noting how far technology has come and he raved about the tech that Disney are using to bring Spiderman to life, which he found a video of.
